Have you ever been to a hotel that has served your breakfast or afternoon tea with your condiments or jam in little individual jars?
Once the jar has been opened it is rarely placed on another table and even if its hardly used usually ends up in the bin, either as landfill or if the hotel is prepared to carefully clean out each one, in the recycling bin. Unfortunately many if not most of these jars do end up in landfill.
The Green Woman is working with one local hotel to save these jars from landfill and give them a second life. We collect the jars, remove the labels, clean and sterilise them (organically, no chemicals here), add new lids and refill them with our 'mini' sized products and samples. We collect 100-200 jars a week from one hotel alone. The time and effort required to recondition the jars is almost completely off set by what we save from buying virgin jars. We believe that an item should be used again and again until the end of its reusable life and only then should it be recycled. This is one way that we are showing it is possible. Change the business not the climate.
